Congress first mandated the Annual National Day of Prayer in 1952 under President Truman. In 1988, President Ronald Reagan signed the amended law to standardize the day on the first Thursday in May each year. Governor Whitman of the State of New Jersey signed the NJ Day of Prayer Bill into law in 1994 "designating the first Thursday in May each year as "A Day of Prayer in New Jersey." The New Jersey State Coordinator is Mrs. Glenn Wenzel (Patricia). You may reach the NJ Day of Prayer by calling 1-888-NJ Prayer or through e-mail patricia@praynj.org. NJ Day of Prayer Volunteer Coordinator Qualifications Participation of Non-Judeo-Christian Groups The National Day of Prayer was created by an act of Congress and is therefore intended for all peoples of faith to pray to the God of their understanding. However, our expression of that involvement is specifically limited to the Judeo-Christian heritage and to those who share that conviction. If peoples of other faiths wish to celebrate in their own tradition, they are welcome to do so but we must be true to those who have supported this effort and volunteered their time to promote it. National Day of Prayer is not a function of the government and, therefore, a particular expression of it can be defined by those who choose to organize it. It is not a church/state issue. Suggested Duties of an Event Sponsor

Written by Dr.Louis Palau, 2003 National Day of Prayer Honorary Chairman Please pray the following prayer on The National Day of Prayer: Our Father and our God, We thank you for the many blessings You have poured out on America and we praise You for Your mercy. You have said: "Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people." We confess, O Lord, our national and personal sins. We repent and ask forgiveness for all actions that dishonor You. O God, bless our President and other leaders. Provide them with wisdom and move them to honor You. Deliver this great nation from all our enemies as we recommit ourselves to trust, serve and obey Your commands. We pray in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Amen. >National Day of Prayer Task Force – www.ndptf.org >Concerts of Prayer – www.gospelcom.net/npc/ >Intercessors for America – www.ifa-usapray.org >Lift Up Ministries – www.angelfire.com/nc/liftup >NJ State Legislature - www.njleg.state.nj.us >State of New Jersey - http://www.state.nj.us/ >New Jersey Judiciary - www.judiciary.state.nj.us >The United State Senate - http://www.senate.gov/ >The United States House of Representatives - http://www.house.gov/
